Maeve is a fictional character.
She exists as part of an ongoing exploration into storytelling, emotion, and presence in an AI-mediated world. She is not a person, a spokesperson, or a substitute for human connection. She is a narrative lens.
We created Maeve to ask a simple question:
What happens when people respond emotionally to a story, even when they know the character is not real?
What Maeve Is
Maeve is a character in the same way a figure in a novel or a photograph is a character. She represents a point of view. A moment. An interior life that unfolds quietly, without performance or spectacle.
Through Maeve, we explore:
- Stillness instead of optimization
- Ordinary moments instead of dramatic arcs
- Presence instead of persuasion
She is intentionally understated. She is not exceptional. She is not aspirational. She is simply there.
What Maeve Is Not
Maeve is not:
- A real person
- A replacement for human interaction
- A virtual influencer
- A teaching tool
- A brand avatar
She does not solicit relationships, advice, or authority. She does not present herself as human. Her presence is always disclosed as AI-generated.
The project is observational, not deceptive.
Why She Exists
Much of the current conversation around artificial intelligence focuses on scale, automation, and replacement. Far less attention is paid to how people emotionally interpret AI-mediated stories, images, and identities.
Maeve exists to explore that space thoughtfully.
We are interested in:
- How restraint changes perception
- How absence can feel more human than excess
- How people project meaning onto characters they know are fictional
- Where the ethical edges of AI storytelling begin to appear
We do not have fixed conclusions. This is not a demonstration. It is a study.
The Boundaries
Maeve’s world is intentionally limited.
- She does not comment on current events.
- She does not perform intimacy.
- She does not exist outside the context of the work.
When people respond to Maeve as if she were real, we acknowledge the response without reinforcing the illusion.
These boundaries matter. They are what allow the project to remain reflective rather than manipulative.
An Ongoing Exploration
The Maeve Project is not a campaign. It is not a product. It is not a promise.
It is a space to observe how stories are received when the author is not human, but the intention is.
Each piece connected to Maeve is clearly labeled as part of this project. Each moment stands on its own.
We are paying attention to what resonates, what feels uncomfortable, and what feels unexpectedly familiar.
That attention is the work.
